Cool Ideas to Compliment Open Area Air Conditioning
Commercial one and two story concrete tilt-up buildings are commonplace throughout Southern California. These low rise structures provide a great opportunity for HVAC contractors and mechanical engineers to help owners and leasing agents land the perfect long term tenants. Air conditioning typically consists of small tonnage package downshot units spread across the roof. While some of this HVAC capacity serves the tenant’s office areas this usually represents only a portion of the total square footage. It’s the manufacturing and warehouse open floor plan areas that can attract the right tenant. Roofs are generally low load construction with a high tech finish, both of which can make it cost prohibitive to modify for an interested tenant. So it’s time to look inside the box for better air conditioning solutions.
Thermotek HVLS Fans for Additional Comfort Control
High Volume Low Speed fans by Thermotek are a proven way to provide de-stratification of an open area in an energy efficient manner. In fact, large HVLS fans consume less power than the average hair dryer. Heated air trapped in the upper building areas are pushed to the floor level while summer temperatures are reduced 4 to 6 degrees. A single fan selected for heating and cooling can effectively serve a 120Ft2 radius. These light weight fans are suitable for flat or sloped roof construction with I-beam, Purlin, OWSJ, concrete and wood beam mounting options.
DTI Fabric Duct Systems
For some tenants, better air distribution and temperature control is required for their process. Difusión Textil Integral offers are variety of cost effective and light weight fabric ducting systems for many applications. These light weight fabric duct systems are commonly used in open manufacturing areas, processing facilities, grow room operations and high density areas. Considering DTI fabric duct systems can be a cost effective solution in locating a tenant with specific needs.
MicroCool Fogging Systems
The need for humidity control in a tilt-up manufacturing space can be a challenge. With multiple rooftop down shot package units, and internally insulated duct drops, the options to integrate humidifiers into the A/C system can be limited and costly. With the MicroCool high pressure fogging systems humidification can be added directly to the space. They not only cool, humidify and eliminate static electricity, they are economical to install, operate and maintain. Systems are not part of the building and are easily adaptable to changing needs.
